Saskatchewan! Healthy people. A healthy province.

Organ and tissue donations and transplants are managed by the Saskatchewan Transplant Program, with coordinators in Saskatoon and Regina. The program has been in place since 1989.

Both Regina and Saskatoon provide cornea (tissue) transplants.

Adult (living donor) kidney transplantation is done in Saskatoon.

How to become an organ and tissue donor.

The Saskatchewan Transplant Program:

  • handles work-ups of patients and living kidney donors;
  • co-ordinates retrieval teams from outside the province;
  • consults on donor assessment and maintenance;
  • educates professionals/public on transplantation and organ donation;
  • identifies donors and maintains contact information;
  • approaches families for organ donation consent;
  • provides pre- and post- transplantation teaching; and
  • makes out-of-province arrangements for transplant patients who must travel outside of Saskatchewan.
