Community-based organizations that provide direct health services received a 2.3% funding increase in 2008-09.

Carol Hayward, Chairperson

Carol Hayward of Tisdale is a homemaker/farmer and was the Chairperson of the former Pasquia District Health Board. She was elected to the Pasquia Home Care Board in 1988, served two terms and also began volunteer visiting for Pasquia Home Care.

Mrs. Hayward was a commissioner for the 1991 Census. In 1999, the Minister of Education appointed Carol to the School Task Force. She enjoys being involved with her community and volunteering for many activities.

Dale Link, Vice-Chairperson

Dale Link of Melfort is a retired teacher and school administrator for the Melfort School Division. His community involvement includes Chairperson of the former North Central District Health Board, member of the Melfort and District Museum Board, Melfort Rotary Club, and the Superannuated Teachers’ Association. He is also a past Chairperson of the Melfort Teachers Association and the Local Implementation and Negotiation Committee.

Kathleen Bedard

Kathleen Bedard of St. Brieux is self-employed and does contract work for various companies, designing, selling advertising and producing publications. Kathleen was a member of the former North Central District Health Board and served sixteen years on council for the R.M. of Flett’s Springs #429. She has experience with various boards and their committees: special care homes, hospitals, community volunteer work, and more recently, the SAHO board of directors.

Robert Cheechoo

Robert Cheechoo of Cumberland House is Director of Operations for the North Cote Metis Development Corporation and was a member of the former North-East District Health Board.

Don DeMarsh

Don DeMarsh of Tisdale is the owner of Century 21 Tisdale Agencies and is primarily involved in the real estate and appraisal part of the business. Don was a member of Tisdale Town Council from 1987-2003 and was very active on many local committees. His community involvement includes chairperson of the Transportation and Services, Recreation Parks, Doghide River Trails, and the Economic Development Committees. His other community activities include coaching girls’ softball and managing minor hockey teams. Previously he was a member of the Tisdale Kinsmen Club, president of the North-East Men’s Fastball League, president of the North-East Men’s Basketball League and officiated high school basketball.

Minnie Deutsch

Minnie Deutsch of Nipawin, currently retired, was a co-owner and manager of a retail business. Her community work includes having held executive positions including chairperson of many organizations such as Kinettes, Golf, Curling, Minor Hockey, and Minor Ball. Minnie was a member of the Nipawin Union Hospital Board for seven years and a member of the Melfort-Tisdale Health Region. She was also the Vice-Chair of the former North-East District Health Board.

Darrel Guy

Darrel Guy of Lintlaw has served as Administrator for the Towns of Big River and Hudson Bay, and has served as a Local Government Advisor for the Department of Urban Affairs for a number of years. Darrel served as School Business Official for the Outlook School Division for 13 years. He served as a Director and as President for the Saskatchewan Association of School Business Officials. He was a Director of the Urban Administrators Association as well as a board member for both the Outlook Credit Union and the Prairie Centre Credit Union. Darrel has been a member of a number of local organizations over the years.

Marion Heavin

Marion Heavin of Melfort farms in partnership with her husband. She was a teacher in the past, both in the public school system and in adult education with Cumberland Regional College.

Marion has served on a number of boards over the years including: Sask Power Corporation, Saskatchewan Government Insurance, Melfort Homecare, Sask. Water Appeal Board, the former North Central District Health Board, and Saskatchewan Cancer Agency.

Marion’s volunteer activities have included Kinettes, Curling Club, Melfort Arts Council and Melfort Music Festival Association. She served for several years as a volunteer tutor with the Sask. Literacy Program. Marion is an active member of Melfort United Church.

Carla Hipkins

Carla Hipkins of Porcupine Plain works at the Porcupine Plain Elementary School as a Speech Therapist Aide. She was a member of the former Pasquia District Health Board. Carla’s community involvement includes President of the Chase Place Arena Board, Chairperson of the Arena Fundraising Committee, and Executive member of the Porcupine Plain Figure Skating Club. She was also a member and coach of Minor Ball, a former member of the Health Care Auxiliary, past president of Porcupine Minor Hockey, and former member of the Kinnette Club.

Steve Rudy

Steve Rudy of Carrot River is a retired educator and was previously the CEO of Cumberland Regional College.

At present, Steve is a Councilorfor the RM of Nipawin No. 487, a member of Nipawin Library Board, North Sask Laundry Board, Riverside Manor Residence Board and Nipawin Health Foundation Board. His other community involvement includes serving on the church executive for over 30 years, Rotary Club member for 22 years and a Lions’ Club Member for three years.

Steve and Mary operate a fruit and vegetable farm, which includes a U-pick operation and attending various Farmer’s Markets in North-east Saskatchewan.

Cathy Ryan

Cathy Ryan of Hudson Bay works for Hudson Bay Credit Union. She has been active in several organizations that her children are involved in and is presently an active member with the Hudson Bay Skating Club, Hudson Bay Karate Club, Hudson Bay Dance Club, Red Deer Saddle Club, and St. Stephen’s United Church.

Lana Thompson

Lana Thompson of Naicam has been a businessperson since 1973 and also operates the family grain farm with her husband. Her community involvement includes Chairperson of the Naicam Housing Authority Board, Board Director and Secretary of Naicam Coop Association, Board Chairperson of the Three Oaks United Church, and member of the former North Central District Health Board.
