Services for People with Disabilities Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)Saskatchewan Health is involved with a number of initiatives related to FASD both in the province, and through an inter-provincial/territorial partnership. Saskatchewan Prevention InstituteThe Saskatchewan Prevention Institute, a non-profit organization, co-ordinates and administers a provincial Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Prevention Program. This program is funded by the provincial ministries of Health and Social Services. Initiatives include:
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Awareness DayProvincial legislation recognizes September 9 to be FAS Awareness Day. Cognitive Disabilities Strategy Cross-ministerial Working GroupThis committee is a cross-ministry policy forum to support an integrated approach to meeting the needs of, and improving outcomes for, people with disabilities and their families. The strategy takes into account the impact a diability has on individuals and families. Cognitive disabilities include FASD, autism spectrum disorders and acquired brain injury. The committee is chaird by the Ministry of Health, with representation from these ministries:
Canada Northwest Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) PartnershipSaskatchewan participates on this partnership along with Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut Territory and Yukon Territory. Through this initiative, the provincial/territorial partners are able to learn from one another, share expertise and resources. Joint conferences and symposiums are also held.

In June 2002 the Government of Saskatchewan passed legislation declaring September 9 as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Awareness Day. A parent-led organization that helps individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and their families recognize themselves as safe, supported, valued and contributing members of the community. An alliance of seven jurisdictions working toward the development and promotion of an interprovincial/territorial approach to prevention, intervention, care and support of individuals affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Co-ordinates and administers a provincial FASD prevention program, with a speaker's bureau of public speakers on the topic, the Youth Action for Prevention program, and other initiatives.
