Saskatchewan! Healthy people. A healthy province.

The Government of Canada established the Aboriginal Health Transition Fund (AHTF) in 2004, initially it was a five-year initiative 2004/05 - 2009/10, however in June 2009 the Federal Government approved an additional policy year therefore this program is extended to March 31, 2011. The fund is designed to benefit all First Nations and Métis peoples in Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan will have received 8.4 million from the Adaptation Envelope of the Aboriginal Health Transition Fund over three years. The AHTF is intended to:

  • improve the integration of federal, provincial and territorial funded health services;
  • improve access to health services;
  • make available health programs and services that are better suited to First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples; and
  • increase the participation of First Nations/Inuit/ Métis peoples in the design, delivery and evaluation of health programs and services in Saskatchewan.
